AMHERST – The Amherst Regional High School Vikings hockey team host the Cobequid Education Centre Cougars Saturday at 7 p.m. at Amherst Stadium.
The game follows a 4-3 win over CEC on Sunday and an 8-1 loss to North Nova last Friday.
“We lost against some very good Division 1 teams a couple weeks ago,” said Vikings coach Wayne MacKenzie. “But we played CEC with a short bench on Sunday and the guys played with a lot of heart and pulled out the win.”
Andrew Skinner scored the lone goal in their loss to North Nova, with an assist from Michael Patterson.
Skinner scored two goals against CEC, with Stephen Belyea and Matthew Beal scoring one goal each. Belyea also had two assists, while Patterson, Skinner and Ryan Hunter had one assist each.
CEC is a Division 1 team, and MacKenzie said the Cougars have added some strong players to their roster.
“They’re a good team but we should have our full bench on Saturday and I think it will be a good game,” said MacKenzie. “There will be a lot of hard hitting and some nice goals.”
The Vikings also host Eastern Shore on Dec. 28.
“They’re one of the best Division 2 teams in Nova Scotia and we could meet them again at the provincial championships, so that should be an exciting game as well.”
Mackenzie also thanks their sponsors and fans for their support.
“Support from Amherst businesses and individuals, plus the Lions Club, has been a big part of our success,” he said. “Their continued support has made a big difference.”
