SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland County Blues have traded the last member of their 2010 Atlantic championship club.
Geoff Burke was dealt to the Brookfield Elks Monday in a blockbuster trade that will see several Cumberland County veterans heading to South Colchester.
Joining Burke in the trade are team captain Liam Carr and Devon Muir. In exchange, the Blues are receiving Brookfield's first overall selection (Elks' 2013 waiver pick), player Kyle MacKenzie, the rights to Chris Poole and two players to be announced later this week.
"This deal, although hard to make, is simply the Blues' organization doing what is best for the hockey team and looking out for the future as we continue to build the team with young hockey players that will be around for three to four years," Blues' general manager Terry 'Mouser' McManaman said.
Muir will return to the Blues next season.
McManaman said the Blues are exited to acquire MacKenzie, who was captain of the Truro Midget Minor AAA Bearcats club that won a Nova Scotia championship last season.
The Blues plan to use the top pick on a Junior A-calibre player while the 2013 waiver draft selection will allow the club to pick up a young player next year. It could also be moved in another trade.
Cumberland County is in Port Hawkesbury on Friday, while Burke, Carr and Muir will make their Elks' debut tonight in Brookfield against the Valley Maple Leafs.
