AMHERST – Alex VanSnick scored two goals to lead the Amherst Regional High School Vikings to a 5-1 win over the Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals in Northern Nova Scotia High School Hockey League action on Friday.
The Vikings, who defeated the Royals 3-2 in overtime Thursday, scored three times in the third period en route to the win.
After VanSnick and Devin MacLaughlin traded goals, Stephen Belyea scored what proved to be the winner when his shot from the side of the goal deflected off a Royals’ defenceman and into the net 6:14 into the second period.
Kirk Hamilton, Joel Boyle and VanSnick scored in the third.
Andrew Skinner added two assists for the Vikings, while Ryan Hunter, Corey Hunter, MacKenzie Colford, Belyea and Boyle added assists.
Connor Hoeg picked up the win in nets.
On Thursday, Ryan Hunter scored in overtime for the Vikings in a 3-2 win.
Hunter and VanSnick scored in regulation for the Vikings, who rallied from a 2-1 deficit.
Peter Kane had two assists while Skinner, Matt Beal and Mitchell Speight added single assists.
Amherst returns to action on Friday when they host the Tantramar Titans in an exhibition game at 8:15 p.m. at the stadium.
