AMHERST – As it has for several years, the Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association will join others across the province this weekend focusing on skills development.

All minor hockey teams in the province will not be playing games this weekend, but will focus on a number of on and off-ice sessions designed to improve player performance and enjoyment of the game.

“This is something all our players, coaches and officials are expected to take part in, it’s going to be a busy weekend,” Cumberland County’s development co-ordinator Colin Brown said Thursday. “We have put a lot of work into organizing a good program for all divisions. There’s a program for the officials as well.”

Brown said a number of Fundy Hockey School instructors, including head instructor Jeff Lewis, will be running sessions during the weekend. Minor hockey coaches will also be participating.

“It should be a lot of fun for everyone,” Brown said. “There will be goaltending sessions as well as powerskating and defenceman and forward clinics.”

Brown said the Tim Horton’s Timbits and the three novice teams and the Kent Novice Ramblers will participating in a jamboree, while there will also be a pizza party for that division.
