SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland County Blues host the Pictou County Scotians tonight at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.
The Blues enter the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League contest with a 2-8 record, while Pictou has a 1-6 record.
“The Blues simply need to pull together and come up with a solid 60 minutes and win this hockey game.,” said Terry ‘Mouser’ McManaman, Blues general manager. “We definitely want a three point lead (in the standings) after this game, and for this to happen we need to have a strong game from our top players.”
McManaman said the Blues are better than their 2-8 record suggests.
“We have lost several close games that could have gone either way,” he said. “The time has come for our veteran players to step up and lead us to a win.”
Matt Caron will start in nets for the Blues, and McManaman is expecting a big game from Caron.
“The team is starting to gel, and we are slowly adding several new players into our lineup,” said McManaman. “Gil Murdock joined the team on defence last weekend. He is attending Mount Allison University.”
The Blues are still hoping to add a few more players.
“We are still looking for a defenceman and two forwards,” said McManaman.
Tonight’s game is the only game the Blues play this weekend.
The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
