SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland Blues will host a pair of games this weekend in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action.
The Blues host the Eastern Shore Mariners tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Richard Calder Arena, while on Sunday they host the Antigonish Bulldogs.
The Blues will be without forwards Aaron Crocker and Devon Muir for tonight’s game as Crocker is still nursing a rib injury that he received lat Saturday against the Ducks, while Muir will be serving his last game of a suspension that he previously received against the Sackville Blazers.
Head coach Robert McClure said the Blues need to arrive this weekend prepared to outwork their opponents, and do the little things right that win hockey games.
“We need to start generating more goal scoring, and this only will happen when everyone is working together,” he said. “Although we are currently have a 1-4 record, we could easily have won a couple more games with some luck.”
McClure said that both games this weekend will be close, and Eastern Shore has a hard working team, while the Antigonish Bulldoga are known for their strong work ethic.
The Blues have been receiving excellent goaltending from Matt Caron and Jessie Cox , and McClure said that they definitely have the best goaltending tandem in the league.
“We are only going to continue to get better, and the players on our team have been working hard at our practices, and they know they will have to be prepared to work hard this weekend in order to be successful,” the coach said
McClure said defenceman Kevin Isherwood will return to the Blues lineup tonight after missing both games last weekend.
