AMHERST – The Amherst Colts will attempt to pick up a pair of wins this weekend in Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League action.
Coming off a 9-0 win over the Clare Lions at home last Sunday, the Colts travel to Spryfield on Saturday to face the Silver and Black Attack before returning home to face the Avon River Rats on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Amherst Stadium.
“The guys are playing very well right now,” Colts’ general manager Grove Sutton said. “We’re very pleased with the direction the team is going right now. There’s a great atmosphere in the dressing room and the guys are really excited to play every time they go to the rink.”
Sutton expects a tough contest in Spryfield. The teams enjoyed a couple of spirited battles last season, including a game late in the season that included a line brawl. Sutton said the Silver and Black Attack has added a few players this season and could be one of the teams to beat.
“They should be pretty good. They have a lot of hockey players to draw from there,” Sutton said. “We’ll be in tough against them.”
In last Sunday’s win, Marshall Terrio had two goals and five assists to lead the way for the Colts while Andrew Barron and Nick Grant also had two goals. Jesse Ogden made 36 saves for the shutout.
“Clare came here with a short bench, but they still fired a lot of shots at Jesse. Cutting down on the shots on goal is something we plan to work on and we’re trying to make some moves to shore up our blueline,” Sutton said. “We have three good scoring lines and that showed last weekend. We just have to work on our own end of the rink.”
