SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland County Blues return to Maritime Junior Hockey League action Friday night, facing off at home against the East Hants Penguins.

“The Penguins are the defending Nova Scotia Junior B champions, and they once again will be a leading team in our league as they have six returning defencemen from last year’s team,” said Blues general manager Terry ‘Mouser’ McManaman.

The Blues will start Matt Caron in goal Friday, and will go with Jessie Cox Monday night against the Sackville Blazers in Lower Sackville.

The Blues opened up their 2012 season last weekend with two losses. They lost 4-3 Friday against the Blazers, and 5-3 Saturday against the Eastern Shore Junior Mariners.

“The Blues will have to play a full game against the Penguins, and be a lot tougher in our own zone,” said assistant coach Jimbo Legere. “We simply made too many mistakes last weekend against the Blazers, and it eventually cost us late in the game.”

The Blues worked on systems in in their own zone during practice this week, and also worked on line breakouts.

“We gave the puck away too many times, and need to be more aggressive, and be first to the puck in order to be successful,” added Legere. “We definitely need a good effort from everybody, and we need to play a full game of hockey.”

The puck drops Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.
