Lions earn second place in tiebreak game

Mats Stone went the distance last night in the Lions win over the Y’s Guys.

AMHERST – It was a pitching duel between two Springhill brothers last night as the Lions and Y’s Guys battled it out in a tiebreaker game.

Mats Stone pitched to a 12-4 win over his brother Nate, who pitches for the Y’s Guys.

The game was played  to determine who would finish in second place in Amherst Little League regular season standings.

Mats went the distance for the Lions, striking out nine batters, while giving up five hits and four walks.

Mike Farrell and Cole Stevens each hit three singles for the Lions, followed by Aiden Devine with two singles, and Stone, Cameron Smith, Graden Chitty, and Jordan MacKenzie with one single each.

Nate Stone pitched five innings for the Y’s Guys before Aaron Sjanic came in for relief.

Stone struck out four batters, while giving up 11 hits and three walks. Sjanic struck out two batters, and gave up one hit and one walk.

Mackenzie Comeau hit a double for the Y’s Guys, and Sjanic, Tyler Baker, Jackson Comeau and Zach Boudreau hit one single each.

The playoffs begin Monday at 6 p.m.
