AMHERST – The Amherst Athletics dominated the Pictou County Cardinals, beating them by scores of 5-1 and 21-11 during Midget A baseball action Sunday afternoon at Robb’s Centennial Complex in Amherst.
In what was their first game of the season Nic Chapman, Alex Embree, Ryan Meisner, and Peter Kane each hit a single in the Athletics 5-1 win.
Matthew Hunter led the way for the Athletics in the second game of the double header with two doubles and a triple, while Matt Beal hit two doubles and Embree and Jordan McManaman hit three singles each. Josh Lee hit two singles, while Chapman, Logan Dowe, Meisner, Forrest Gallagher, Cody Rector and Kane hit one single each.
Athletics coach Johnathan Murray said the team had fun and showed a lot of hustle.
Murray coached Amherst Little League for more than 10 years and knows a lot of the Athletics, who are all between 16 and 18-years old.
“I either coached them or they played against them, or they were playing against me,” he said. “I know what to expect from them and they know what to expect from me, so it was an easy transition (from little league to midget).”
