AMHERST – Sisters Kyrsten and Felicia Landry fly from Halifax to St. John’s Newfoundland on Thursday to compete at the Atlantic Gymnastics Championships.
The two members of the Aerials Gymnastics Club say they hope to do better this year than they did at last years Atlantics.
“I finished third last year and hope to do at least as well this year,” said Kyrsten, who competes in the Open 3 Division.
“I finished sixth and hope to do better this year,” said Felicia, who competes in the Open 2 Divsision.
Their coach, and mom, Michelle Landry has confidence in the young athletes.
“Kyrsten is doing well and Felicia had a really good year this year, so it would be nice to see her finish the season on a high note.”
The girls will be two of six girls on Team Nova Scotia. Kyrsten said her strongest event is the floor, and Felicia said she’s best on the beam.
Michelle calls the Atlantics the ‘icing on the cake.’
“You’re competing with people you competed against all year, so it’s the fun meet,” said Michelle. “You don’t stress about it, you just have a good time and have fun representing Nova Scotia.
Kyrsten said that it’s an opportunity to better get to know the other Nova Scotia athletes.
“It’s fun to go shopping and it’s nice becoming friends with people you competed against all year,” she said.
