NEW WATERFORD – The Amherst Regional High School Vikettes are the 2011-2012 Nova Scotia Schools Athletic Federation Division 2 Girls Basketball Champions.

"I am filled with pride for a great bunch of student athletes who represented themselves, their school and their community to the highest standard this weekend,” said Vikettes coach Gillian Ellis. “It is a good feeling to bring the banner back to Amherst."

The Vikettes won gold with a 64-59 win over Middleton High School.

"Everyone came together as one,” said Ellis. “We did the right things and finished on top."

Danielle Young led the Vikettes in the championship game with 23 points, followed by Lauren MacEachern with 15, Kathryn Hillier 11, Paige Lewis with seven, Ashley MacEachern with four and Natasha Gouchie and Leah Patterson with two each, and Maitland Terrio with one.
