AMHERST – The Springhill High School Golden Eagles defeated the Amherst Regional High School Junior Varsity Vikettes 66-58, last night at ARHS.
Leading Springhill was Sydnee Balser with 25 points, followed by Stephanie McCormick with 13 points, Trisha Thompson with 11 points, Brenna Casey with nine points, and Mallory Thompson with eight.
“I thought the whole team contributed so that helped but I think we need to focus more,” SHS coach Charlie Chambers said. “We need them to realize the intensity of the game. Anybody who steps on the court needs to be intense and focused and needs to know what they have to do out there.”
Mia Furlong led in scoring for the JV Vikettes with 22 points, followed by Angel Downey with 12, Alexa Thompson with seven, Andrea Comeau with six, Hannah Legere with four, Jessica Wilson and Meagan Morrison with three each and Taylor Chitty with one.
“We didn’t play as tough as I thought we could,” said JV Vikettes coach Kelly Sigut. “You’re not going to win many games if you don’t get more rebounds than the other team and not getting to the ball first. Also, I found our defence wasn’t playing like they should, but our shots were falling up until the end of the game, so that was good to see.”
