SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland County Blues suffered two Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League overtime losses over the weekend.
They lost 3-2 to the Scotians Sunday night in Pictou County, and 6-5 Friday night to the Glace Bay Miners in Springhill.
Jordie Shaw and Zach Carson scored for the Blue last night with Shaw, Carson and Geoff Burke scoring one assist each.
On Friday Colin MacKinnon of the Glace Bay Miners scored the game-winning goal with 57 seconds left in overtime for in a 6-5 Miners victory.
The Blues came back from a two-goal deficit in the third period but couldn’t pull the victory out in the end.
“I thought we played well defensively in the first period, but it got away from us after that,” said coach Dave Hyatt.
“We’ll take some positives out of it. We were down two in the third period and still managed to make a run of it, so there’s something to be said about that.”
Josh Coleman, Cody Taker, Geoff Burke, Cole Wood and Tyler Gould scored goals for the Blues.
The Blues return home Friday to host the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates.
