AMHERST - About 15 Aerials athletes were practicing their gymnastics routines Monday night in preparation for the 2012 season.

"We're definitely where we should be at this point," Aerials coach, Michelle Landry, said.

The athletes compete in several different disciplines and they all have their strengths and weaknesses, but Landry said there are two areas where they need to commit more time

"The bars, along with the vault, are areas where they need improvement," she said.

The class has several new girls, and girls who have been training for much of their life.

"We have some girls who are going to move up in category this year," Landry said. "Darcy Fullerton and Kirsten Lawrence are going to try Level 2 this year."

Kyrsten Landry began to compete at Level 3 at the end of last season and will continue at that level in 2012.

"I think she's learned to deal with some of her fears, so hopefully that will help her when she starts competing," Landry said.

Their first competition is in Charlottetown at the end of January.
