AMHERST – A new year with mostly new faces began Wednesday night for the Amherst Regional High School Junior Varsity Vikettes basketball team.

Although they lost 61-27 to the Riverview Royals the young team got better as the game progressed.

“Having seven Grade-9 girls coming into their first high school game, they were a little nervous,” co-coach Kelly Sigut said after the game. “As the game went on the girls got more confident, they got the nerves out of their system and they started playing more aggressive on offense and started driving to the hoop, so we saw improvement in the run of one game.”

More pictures of the game can be seen on the slide show section at www.cumberlandnewsnow.com, and a video of the last four minutes of the game can be seen on the video section of www.cumberlandnewsnow.com.
