AMHERST – The Thunderbirds needed just two goals to win the under-12 boys Eastern League championship for a second year in a row but it wasn’t to be as they lost 1-0 in the league championship to Riverview last night at the Church Street soccer field.
“They played well and improved all season, and that’s all we could ask of them,” coach Duane Starratt said. “We look forward to a lot of them moving up and playing under-14 soccer next year.”
The Thunderbirds finished third in the regular season standings, while Riverview finished fourth and they upset the first and second place teams in the semi-finals. They played each other three times in the regular season, with Riverview winning two of the three games.
