Hoop tournaments rescheduled

AMHERST – Yesterday’s storm put several Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation basketball championships on hold, including the Division 2 boys in Amherst.

The tournament will start today, with the championship game going Sunday at noon.

The revised schedule is as follows (seedings in parentheses):

Today

2 p.m. - (3) Central Kings vs. (6) King's-Edgehill

4 p.m. - (4) Middleton vs. (5) Northeast Kings

6 p.m. - (1) Amherst vs. (8) Forest Heights

8 p.m. - (2) Bridgewater vs. (7) Breton 

Tomorrow

9 a.m. - Loser (1 vs. 8) vs. loser (4 vs. 5)

11 a.m. - Loser (2 vs. 7) vs. loser (3 vs. 6)

1 p.m. - Semifinal: winner (1 vs. 8) vs. winner (4 vs. 5)

3 p.m. - Semifinal: winner (2 vs. 7) vs. winner (3 vs. 6)

5 p.m.  - Seventh-place game

7 p.m.  - Fifth-place game

Sunday

10 a.m. - Third-place game

Noon - Championship

Elsewhere, the Amherst Vikettes made the trip to Canning for the Division 2 girls tournament but their opponent, Forest Heights, didn’t. They’ll square off today at 10 a.m.

The championship game goes Saturday at 3 p.m.

Other teams beginning their tournaments today because of the weather are the Division 3 Springhill girls, who travel to Digby, and the Division 4 Pugwash boys, who head to Lockeport.

No. 1-ranked Springhill starts against No. 8 Digby at 10 a.m., with the championship game going Saturday at 6:15 p.m.

No. 4-ranked Pugwash opens  against No. 5 Cabot at 4:30 p.m., with the championship game being played Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Division 4 girls tournament in Neil’s Harbour, Victoria Co., was not affected by the weather. Oxford and Pugwash are competing.
