SPRINGHILL: Fans got a chance to cheer on Springhill Motocross racer Ryan Lockhart last weekend as he dug up the dirt on his home turf.
It was Lockhart's only Maritime stop this season on the CMRC Motocross Pro National Series.
Racing Saturday and Sunday, Lockhart posted a fifth and sixth place finish.
"All in all I did pretty good but obviously I would have liked to have done better," Lockhart said.
Despite not climbing upon the winner's podium to celebrate a top finish, Lockhart had a great time.
"It's awesome racing close to home," Lockhart said. "It's always nice to be close to home and having lots of fans out cheering you on."
The rainy weather didn't put a damper on the crowd's enthusiasm.
"It was a really good crowd considering the weather wasn't that great," Lockhart added. "It was overcast but it was a huge crowd."
Lockhart said River Glade is one of the better racetracks in the Pro National Series and the promoters to a great job promoting the race.
Last weekends results have Lockhart sitting in seventh place in the National standings in the MX2 division. He has 179 points.
With two races left in the season Lockhart hopes to nudge his way up the standings.
"Next weekend we race in Ottawa and the weekend after that we race just outside London, Ontario," Lockhart said. "I just want to get in some good results. That's the main thing."
What will Lockhart do when the race season comes to an end on August 17?
"I'll come home and do some local racing and hopefully try to figure out a deal for the winter time," Lockhart said. "Hopefully I'll go down South but I'll have to find a sponsor for that."
Ryan's younger brother Brad also raced in River Glade last weekend in the MX2 division, the same division as his brother.
"He finished 17th in one moto," Lockhart said. "It was his first time trying to qualify for a national so he did really good."
Brad will not travel to Ontario to race but will ride in local races for the rest of the season.
"Next year he'll move up and do more pro races," Lockhart said.
