SHS claims bronze at provincials
SPRINGHILL: They came, they saw, and they were definitely seen.
The Springhill High School Track and Field team left their mark by winning three bronze medals at the Provincial track and field meet last weekend Halifax.
"I can't remember the last time our team won three medals," SHS track coach Brad Moore said. "I can't say for sure if it's ever been done."
What was most impressive is that all the SHS athletes ran, jumped and threw personal bests with most of the athletes making it to the top ten.
"They all had personal bests by a big margin," Moore added. "We had a phenomenal meet. The other competitors definitely knew we were there."
A good example of major improvement in running times is the 4x400 relay team.
During the regionals they ran 4:07 and at the provincials they ran 3:58, taking almost 10 seconds off their best time.
Does this bode well for the future of track at SHS?
"We'll see. Most of these athletes will be moving up to the senior level next year, so these kind of wins usually come in a 2 year cycle," Moore said. "It all depends on how hard they work."
