Thanks to technology, Christians in Amherst can now get their bible teachings 24/7 if they feel inclined to do so.

The Highland AME Church was recently equipped with a repeater system that receives the CITA (Christ is the answer) 105.9 FM Christian radio broadcast signal from Moncton and "repeats" it in the Amherst area on CITA 99.1 FM.

"The real advantage is that Amherst and some of the surrounding areas are able to hear Christian teaching and Christian music 24 hours a day," said Rev. Karen Cross of the Highland AME church.

"It's another way to get god's word out to the people."

CITA is operated by the International Harvesters for Christ Evangelistic Association Inc., which also operates CJLU in Halifax.

The Highland AME church was contacted by Rev. Jeff Lutes a couple years ago, before the radio stations were even up and running, about setting up a repeater station.

The two parties signed a contract in January to start broadcasting to Amherst.

Lutes said you don't need to be religious to enjoy the station.

"This is not a case of religion being shoved down anyone's throat," he said.

The repeater was only set up at the Highland church because it was the highest location to host it. The station is for the whole community.

"For the believers, it just increases our knowledge and wisdom of god's word," Cross said. "For the non-believer, they can just enjoy the rhythm and beat of the music. It's very upbeat and very positive.

"If they just don't want to get into the message of it, they can just enjoy the different artists."

Cross said the majority of the community doesn't know about the station yet, but the church is hosting a concert this Saturday as a celebration and promotion of Christian radio in town.

The 12-member Beechville Baptist choir will start playing at 2 p.m.
