Colts playoff hockey
SPRINGHILL – Except for the final score, the Amherst Colts first Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League playoff game of the season didn’t disappoint their fans Feb. 13 in Springhill. The Colt lost 6-5 to the Shannon Park Huskies in double over time in what was a back and forth battle from beginning to end. “It was a good hockey game,” said Grove Sutton, Colts general manager, after the game. “We didn’t get the outcome but the boys put everything on the line. They worked hard and were out there blocking shots. “The kids gave everything they had and that’s all you can ask.” Amherst went up 2-0 before the mid-way mark of the first off goals from Andrew Barron and Nathan McCue, but the Huskies scored two goals 13 seconds apart, one at 9:13 and one at 9:00 to tie the game up 2-2. Nicholas Grant and Zach Coates assisted on the Barron goal, and Spencer Maskill assisted on the McCue goal. The teams exchanged single goals in the second period. The Huskies went up 3-2, when Barron scored his second of the night to tie it up 3-3. The goal was unassisted. In the third, the Colts went up 5-3 off goals from Grant and McCue, before the Huskies Matthew Calder score two goals and forced the game into overtime. Barron and Jesse MaGarvey assisted on the Grant goal, and Mark LeBlanc and Justin Farrow assisted on the McCue goal. It wasn’t until double overtime that Calder gave his team the win with 4:44 left on the clock. Colts goaltender Julien Savoie faced 38 shots and Huskies goaltender Eric Durand faced 40.
