SPRINGHILL – Memories of the dugouts, being up at bat and the crowd cheering as a young batters round first base are now being shared between Springhill and a small town in Cuba. When two of Springhill Minor Baseball’s Jim “Pokie” Melanson’s sons visited Cuba recently, he pulled out about twenty retired baseball uniforms from storage – replaced by the new Fencebusters uniforms – and asked they find a new home for the uniforms. Shortly afterwards, Melanson received a letter in the mail from the community, thanking him, his family and all Canadians and pictures of the youth using the uniforms during practice.
