I noted the comments from Kathy Redmond regarding cost of signage relating to the Cobequid Pass (affectionately referred to as the "None Shall Pass"), and their use for only a few months.
Hopefully, signs of this type will be utilized to a far greater degree in that any number of messages could be displayed such as those reminding motorists about seatbelts, cellphone usage, wildlife concerns, speed reduction and cancelling cruise control in heavy rain. Any number of road user related topics.
This was the intention when suggestions were made in this regard, several years ago. At that time it was thought that signs would be erected closer to the NS/NB border, thus allowing travellers the option of leaving the highway at Amherst in the event of a road closure. That area is inundated with signs so it may not have worked, but the signs are a good thing and the other improvements are as well. However, their usage can certainly be expanded. Lets hope the 5-1-1 line is updated more frequently this winter!
