To the Editor,
In remembering and honouring Guy Brown, I strive to avoid clichÉs. It is telling that even former political "foes" look on him with admiration, respect, and affection. He deserved it.
When Ella and I lived in Parrsboro with little Justin and Aaron, I had occasion to speak with Guy a number of times, and he would ask about my family and work, in that order. There was something so gentle in his manner that, in the two times he spoke with Ella, his droll teasing (at my expense) brought a ready laugh from her, and trust.
People trusted Guy; he understood them. For yes, though he was a politician, the clichÉ holds; he truly was "the people's politician," and a gentle hard-working bear of a man.
