To the Editor,
I am not the kind of person that generally writes letters. I am new to Amherst. I recently bought a house here. I have been working in Amherst for one-and-a-half years and had been travelling to and from Tatamagouche.
Tatamagouche is a very community minded village. I miss that. I joined the YMCA for the simple fact that it had a pool and I like to swim. As an added bonus it turned out it was the first time I started to feel like there was a community I could be a part of.
I do not know many people in Amherst. I have started to enjoy a lot of the other things the YMCA offers, but I still use the pool about four times a week. As a result of joining the YMCA I have now started to meet some new people in Amherst. I am starting to feel like there is a community that I may be able to belong to even though I am not originally from here.
I look forward to going to the YMCA and seeing the friendly faces of staff and other YMCA members. I love the diverse schedule and programs. I work shift work and I can still find I time in their schedule to swim each day regardless of the shift I am working.
I realize the costs of running the pool facilities are expensive, but there are so many benefits to having a great facility like this in Amherst.
I was very upset to find out the pool would be closing. Something should be done to stop the closure.
