The Green Party of Saskatchewan (GPS) questions the need for the Wall Government to possibly raise Education taxes in the coming provincial budget. The Premier made the suggestion at the SUMA convention in Regina. It would be unfair to balance the provincial treasury on the backs of property owners. Ordinary hardworking people in this province are struggling to stay ahead of our inflationary economy. The last thing they need is to face a higher tax bill. Education taxes should be spent on education, not trying to balance the overall provincial budget.
Rather than hike education taxes on property owners, the Wall Government should look inward and cut spending on management in the Ministries, including in Executive Council. Most Government Ministries have several layers of management – this is totally unnecessary. The government should tighten its own belt at the top before asking property owners to shoulder a higher burden.
