“Walk up Central Avenue and something caught my eye / what to smoke and what to chew / ghost murals on the side. / The life of this old building seems to hang on by a thread / but given the chance it will fly like the pigeons overhead.”

Listening to Dave Cyca’s ballad to the Lyric Theatre, Bricks and Mortar, you begin to realize that there is much more to the Lyric Theatre than the world-class music, theatre and authors it brings in. You get a sense of the importance that this historic venue has played in the lives of aspiring artists around the Southwest, and the feeling that something much deeper is taking place. It’s a space where dreams are realized, friendships are made and good times are had.

The Lyric provides a friendly, welcoming environment where people go to share and explore their talents, passions and ideas. It’s a place where you are immediately greeted by friendly faces and you can’t help but feel at home. You may start out as strangers, but quickly realize without speaking a word that you are among friends. The Lyric Theatre is so much more than the programming it offers; it’s a place that represents diversity, and unconditional acceptance and love.

That is why I have chosen to buy a Lyric membership. It has been said that every dollar you spend is a vote for what you want to see more of in this world; the Lyric theatre is an organization I believe in whole-heartedly and wish to see its legacy continue to thrive. Help keep the legacy and spirit of the Lyric Theatre alive in the Southwest by purchasing a $25 membership today. Visit www.lyrictheatre.ca for more information.
