To the editor,
So many times in the area people have to surrender or relocate their family pet to local shelters or other families because they cannot afford to feed them.

Life happens sometimes, people lose their jobs, they get sick, divorce, etc., and their life temporarily changes. They do what they need to but sometimes they have to make the decision to give away the family pet as they can’t afford to feed it.

This decision is a difficult one, it’s devastating to the family and it turns the pet’s life upside down also. A pet is so vital to families during stressful times, as we know they reduce stress and giving that pet away because of a temporary situation is just another blow to the family.

Let’s change this scenario, let’s help feed those pets so they can stay with their families.

My new project is called Granite Bowl Pet Pantry. I am asking the public, service groups, churches and schools to donate pet food and I will distribute it to those in temporary need.

There are also lots of stray cats in the area that need to be fed. Let’s make sure no cat or dog is hungry in our county.

I have been involved in animal welfare locally for 30 years and I know the people of the area love to help animals. I know I can count on them to support this project and make it a success.

Please visit my Facebook page Granite Bowl Pet Pantry and like and share. Private message me or email me at garland_30@msn.com if you would like to donate food or know of someone in need of pet food temporarily.
