Paying a living wage would help solve problems

To the editor,

I just want to say as a matter of justice and fairness that just like we go on and on about the need for people to “work,” we need to address just as much the need to pay people a decent living (not minimum) wage. Around here that would amount to at least $15 an hour.

We also need to challenge our present definitions of “work,” which do not seem to include the many of us who work to take care of others (children, the disabled, the elderly) at home in our families. These changes would put a significant dent in the poverty phenomenon in Canada, help our economy (the sharing of resources with all) and do something to challenge the gross imbalance of many CEOs earning 80 to 100 times their average employee and increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of about one per cent of our population.
