This weekend hundreds of firefighters from across the Maritimes and beyond will be in Pictou County to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Maritime Fire Chief’s Association. There will be a tradeshow and workshops held with some great speakers who are the best in the business.
This is a great event for our community and a fantastic opportunity for the Pictou County Wellness Centre to be able to showcase their ability to host a large event.
The event was last held in Pictou County in 2009 at the Nova Scotia Community College with a great success. With many of the same organizers helping to put this together, we’re confident they will represent our area well. The fact that it’s the 100th anniversary only adds to the excitement.
Sunday there will be a parade starting at 6 p.m. and then a memorial service starting at 6:45 p.m. to honour the firemen who have been lost in the line of duty and those who have simply passed away after years of service as firefighters. The event is open to the public and we hope that a large number of people take the time to honour these men and women for their service to our community. Whenever they respond to a fire, they willfully put their safety on the line in order to ensure it for others.
With some of the newest trucks in the business on display, there’s sure to be lots of reasons for the public to stop by and take a gander in the parking lot of the Wellness Centre.
The fireworks Sunday night is also a bonus.
On a side note, an event like this brings many economic benefits to our region. Hotels are sure to be filled and restaurants are bound to benefit.
When you see the firefighters in our local businesses, be sure to thank them for all they do.
