John Bragg is someone whose actions speak louder than words.
John Bragg is someone whose actions speak louder than words. Bragg, who was born, raised and lives in Collingwood and operates a business in Oxford, has long believed in supporting rural Nova Scotia. He has long campaigned for governments and banks to support rural infrastructure and business.
He has dipped into his personal fortune to help Oxford fix its water problem, end the annual flooding ritual and has supported the creation of more housing in an attempt to stop the outmigration of people from the community.
Earlier this week, Bragg announced hes offering interest-free forgivable loans to employees of Oxford Frozen Foods who purchase a home in the Oxford area. The program is available to first-time home buyers who work at Oxford Frozen Foods and will provide loans equal to 20 per cent of the value of a property up to $20,000. The loan will be written off over a 10-year period.
Oxford Frozen Foods, like many other firms in this part of the world, is struggling to attract workers at a time when many are heading for the opportunities and fast cash of Alberta.
By enticing employees to purchase a home in Oxford, Bragg is trying to sustain his workforce and his companys viability while at the same time making a statement about supporting rural Nova Scotia and Oxford.
Its too bad there werent more John Braggs out there.
