This should be a no-brainer for the councils.

The Cumberland County Exhibition, like every other county exhibit across the province, is an agricultural showcase that raises awareness for the farming community.

At a time when more and more rural communities are being emptied of their residents who often leave for opportunities elsewhere usually in bigger towns and cities and at a time when more and more people become further removed from life on the farm and any real understanding of where their food comes from, it is vitally important to support such events.

They are entertaining and educational. They provide a forum for people to communicate and show off their skills and products.

Youth involved in 4-H programs often use these fairs to compete to earn the right to attend bigger events and represent their county on a grander scale.

Regardless of where it is located - in this case Oxford - the Cumberland County fair is for everyone in Cumberland County, no matter which municipal unit you choose to live. It should be supported by all municipal units. If the assistance is not given and the exhibition is allowed to die, it would be another blow to rural life in Cumberland County.
