Hi again from Advocate. Don't you just love this mild weather and the days getting longer? All are sure signs that spring is coming!
The family of the late Peter Larsen was saddened to learn of his passing on Feb. 8 in High River, Alta. Peter was born in Apple River, the oldest son of Karl and Alice Larsen. For many years he lived in Plaster Rock, N.B. with his wife Helen before retiring and moving to Cayley, Alta. He is survived by his son Dale (Peggy), brothers Clemm (Phyllis), Olaf (Estelle) and sisters Herdis Ferguson, Laura (Dave) Bezanson and Edith (Art) Fillmore.
The Advocate Fire Department wishes to thank everyone who donated and helped with the Valentines supper and for the communities for supporting their supper.
The Lucky Duck draw tickets are here. Donnie Fletcher and I have tickets that are $1 each and first prize is $3,000. Last year a local person won one of the secondary prizes, so it was nice to know one of the winners!
If you want to lose weight, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday night at the Advocate Fire Hall at 7 p.m.
On Friday, Feb. 26 the Spencer's Island Bingo will be held at the Advocate Fire Hall, starting at 7 p.m. They have Bingo there every second week. Come out for an evening of fun.
On Tuesday, March 9 the community luncheon will be held at the log building at noon. On the menu this month is beef stew, ham stew and corn beef and cabbage, dessert, tea and coffee.
On Saturday mornings, come and enjoy coffee, tea, tasty eats and good company at Murphy's Store from 9 a.m. till 11:30ish.
The yearbooks for the Advocate school must be ordered and paid for by March 10. The yearbooks are $15 or the family plan is $15 for the first book and $10 for each additional book.
On the weekend of March 13 the firefighters are going to have a winter carnival and there will be a flea market/yard sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and, if you would like to book a table, please call me at 392-2053. The cost of the first table is free!
