Best wishes to students during summer holidays

New Canaan -

On Thursday, my daughter Debby Chapman of Tidnish came to spend the day with me.

Congratulations to Jackie Smith, who graduated with honours. Jackie received two bursaries, one for $50 (the Harry Smith Bursary), and one for $1,000 (the Kathleen Morris O'Regan Bursary). In September she plans to attend St. F. X. University in Antigonish.
Congratulations to her brother Ryan, who will be going into Grade Nine. Happy holiday wishes go out to all the students.
Donations to our New Canaan Cemetery Fund came from Joyce and George Collins, Margie and Harold Ayers, and Sarah Collins-Yorke in memory of Jeannette Lunn. Sarah also gave in memory of Eleanor Atkinson.
Recent overnight guests with Alta and Murray Fife were Lisa Roon and daughters Sydney and Kieran from Campbell River, B.C. Lisa and girls have been touring Cape Breton, P.E.I., and other points.
Sarah Collins Yorke, who resides at the White Birches, Amherst, was home to spend two weeks with her son Merlin and companion Helen. While here, she celebrated her birthday. She was happy to see Mary and Cedric Gilbert, and happy to have family and friends drop in.
On Saturday, June 27, Brian Gilbert of Lower Sackville visited with his parents Mary and Cedric. On Sunday, Mary celebrated her birthday with family and friends, her granddaughter Kenda Riles and girls of Lower Sackville; Norby Meldrum, Boar's Back; Joyce and Wylie Gallagher, Southampton; Joan Fife and her mother Mrs. Ripley, Lakelands; Rita Gilbert and Theresa Taylor, Parrsboro, all dropped in, besides neighbours, Patsy and Wilson Smith, Linda Lake and grandson Dylan came to wish her well. Friends will be sorry to learn that Mary is not that well.
