Greetings from Brookdale
Our weather is changing again. Last Wednesday night it was a miserable drive from our Bible study at the Nappan Church but, with Boyd as our driver, we made it safely home. The snowflakes were huge and numerous and continued all day Thursday. Now we are in for heavy rain and high winds for a few days while our Ontario crew get to go golfing again.
A roast beef dinner will be held on April 3, Saturday, at the Nappan church. Tickets are available from the UCW members, adults $10 and children $5. There will be only one setting at 12:30 p.m., take-outs available.
April 2 is Good Friday and many churches will be holding special services. A service for the McCully Pastoral Charge will be held at the Nappan United Church at 11a.m. and includes the Brookdale and Fenwick congregations.
There will be a Good Friday brunch at the West Leicester Fire Hall starting at 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12 and pre-schoolers are free. Folk who go to Good Friday services can go before church or go after for lunch. The food is delicious and of great variety and the hospitality is tops.
Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church in Amherst will hold its pancake supper on Saturday, April 3, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Pat Parker, who passed away early Sunday morning. She just celebrated her 90th birthday in January. She was a very talented musician and gave of her time and talent to entertain folk in seniors and nursing homes, as well as doing musical fundraisers. She had a beautiful alto voice and sang with various groups. She had slowed down in the last couple of years but still enjoyed going to UCW when she could. She will be missed.
Registration for the Tantramar Senior College will take place at Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church on Wednesday, April 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. For out of town days and times, check their website.
The Highland Fling buttons and draw cards will be on sale this Thursday, April 1 at Sobeys from 5 to 8 p.m. During Easter week, the only place to pick up buttons will be on Saturday, April 10 at Dayle's Department Store. After that we should be at Sobeys from 5 to 8 p.m. every Thursday and Friday for the next three weeks. The Cumberland Health Care Auxiliary will meet on Thursday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the hospital boardroom.
The Immanuel United Church Women will meet on Monday, April 12 at 7 p.m.
The Chignecto Presbyterial United Church Women met on Saturday at the Sackville United Church for the UCW annual meeting with about 60 ladies in attendance. The next meeting will be solely to look at our structure and how we see the Presbyterial working in the future. The UCWs are getting smaller and no one wants to hold office so how do we keep connected? To be effective, we have to stand together as one, not by ourselves in our own little corner.
