Churches set up meeting dates

Brookdale -

Greetings from Brookdale.
The Maritimes have received a bit of snow, also wet snow rather than rain this past week. It is really cold but at least the sun is shinning even though we have a lot of snow around. Walking is not the best.
The Brookdale United Church holds services at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday morning. We had over 20 in attendance this morning. We have a new keyboard and it sounds really nice. It really adds to the service. One and all are welcome to come and worship with us.
The Brookdale Sewing Circle has started up and the first meeting will be held at Helen Black's and will include a silent auction.
The churches in the McCully Pastoral Charge have their AGM dates set up. Fenwick United will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 27 and Nappan/Maccan will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and Brookdale United will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
The combined annual meeting of the McCully Pastoral Charge will meet at the Nappan Church on Sunday, Feb. 21.
The Immanuel UCW met at the Immanuel Church on Monday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. with seven members in attendance. President Lillian Wessell chaired the meeting and the secretary Joyce Hollis read the minutes. Mary Dunlop, treasurer, gave the financial report. Mary also was in charge of devotions and lunch. It was decided that we do Valentine baskets this year again for the sick and shut-ins on Feb. 12 or 13, depending on the weather. It was also decided that we hold a green snipping party at the March meeting on Monday, March1. The next meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. Jackie Thompson will be on devotion and Jean Miller will do the lunch.
The Chignecto Presbyterial will hold a sub-executive meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at the Sackville United Church. The AGM for all of Chignecto Presbyterial will be held on Saturday, March 27 at the Sackville United Church. It is hoped that we have a good representation, as there are a lot of questions to answer and to be solved. Chignecto Presbyterial is what keeps all the UCW's and other groups connected. It is hoped that the NEWS will be available for Feb. 3 and they will be given out at Chignecto Presbytery. Jean Smith, editor, thanks all those who submitted material. It's a great source to find out what is happening with our United Church Women.
The covenanting service for the Rev. Phillip Read, minister of the Northumberland Pastoral Charge, will take place on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. at Immanuel United Church. The Rev. Val Chongva will be the speaker. Val was our UCW retreat leader at Camp Ta-Wa-Si last September. It will be a pleasure to hear and see her again. Congratulations are extended to the Reads on the birth of their son, Jullian Edward Read.
We extend congratulations to Morris Haugg on the launching of his new book, Memorable, Memories plus... He is a man of many talents and I look forward too reading his book.
I read a book review by Terri Schlichenmeyer, the Book Worm, in the Amherst Daily and I found it interesting. It was called The Shack and I really enjoyed it so am reading it again. Even though it is fiction and really different it really gives one something to think about.
There will be a "Godly Play" workshop held at the Sackville United Church on Saturday, Jan. 16 from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no cost but you are asked to bring a bag lunch. The snow date is Jan.23.
Something to think about - There will be many moments of sorrow and pain in our lives. We should not fear the future, as it will spoil all the good times we do have. We can't change our destiny so when opportunities come our way, we grab them and make them into joys and blessings, for our loved ones, ourselves and for those who lack joy and blessings. We can all do something.
Weekly quote: Anyone all wrapped up in themselves, is over dressed.
Have a great week.
