Festival goes smoothly

We had our son Ed and wife Tracey with the grandchildren Brody and Makenna from Ontario visit with us for 10 days. They left last Tuesday. It was the first time the little ones were here. We took day trips to Joggins, Parrsboro and to P.E.I. We spent two days in New Glasgow with my niece and saw other relatives. We had a great time and hated to see them go, but they will be back next year.

The 29th annual festival took place on July 11-12. The weather was good with some rain on Sunday but everything went smoothly. Volunteer of the Year went to Marjorie MacLean for all her hard work over the years in the community. Winners of the washer toss on Saturday were Jim McLaughlin and Mike O`Brien, who took both games and donated their winnings back to the community. Winners for Sunday were Dana Fraser and Matt Benjamin.
Winning the ice cream eating contest were: first - Colby Jardine, second - Brandon McCallum, third - Emily Haynes and fourth - Abigail Haynes.
Winners of the ball games were division one: first - Craig`s, second - Extra Strength Advil, Division Two - Pugwash, Second - Bomb Squad.
The pork chop supper on Sunday was not as well attended as last year, as there were many other activities taking place on the same weekend.
This weekend is the 24th annual Rodney Estabrooks M.D. Festival, taking place July 24-26 at the sports field in Tidnish. There are 14 teams registered to play in the tournament. There will be a bake sale and craft tables at the Tidnish Community Hall at 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Donations of baked goods would be greatly appreciated. There will be a dance at the Tidnish Hall from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Open bar, must be 19 years and over to attend. Come and join us for a weekend of friends and fun as it is for a good cause.
