River Hebert - This week I would like to start our column by sending out some well deserved congratulations. The first one is sent to Mrs. Jeannie Smith. Every year friends Jeannie Smith and Bethany Compton take a very active part in the Run For The Cure and do their part for Breast Cancer Research and awareness. This year it gives me great pleasure to report that Jeannie Smith was the awarded the 2008 Determination Award. This award is given to the Run for the Cure participant, who raises the most money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. This year Jeannie raised an amazing $4,162.00! Congratulations Jeannie and thank you for being the wonderful person that you are!

Now our second congratulation is sent to a wonderful group of people, who every year plays an important part for Cancer Research. This year the students and staff of the River Hebert Elementary School raised a grand total of 2,710.85 for their annual Terry Fox Walk. This annual event was started in the Elementary School years ago by cancer survivor, Lillian Brag and has played an important part of our childrens school life here at RHES. This year the money raised for cancer research was donated in the name of the Rhodes family, who understands how important cancer research truly is. Congratulations RHES for a wonderful job again this year.

Our finial congratulation is sent to the first year 1442 River Hebert Army Cadets who completed their marksmanship training day on Sept 27th in Oxford. They were Daniel Buboire, Avery Beaton, Tyler Thomas, Mikayla Breau, Summer Upshaw, Dylan Ellsworth, Taylor Brundage and Lane Glennie. We hope you will enjoy your first year of cadets.

The River Hebert Mens Group

The River Hebert and Area Men's Group held a hot turkey luncheon with their wives and guest at the River Hebert United Church on Saturday, October 4th. This mens group consist of retired gentlemen from River Hebert and Joggins area that met 3 times a year just too caught up and talk about old times. This group started when a few old friends decided to get together in Halifax and caught up on old times. Then 8 years ago, George Fullerton decided to reach out to other retired men in this area by putting a little write up about the group in the Halifax newspaper. He explained how nice it was to meet with old friends, enjoy a nice meal and have a few laughs. Over the years the group has grown and men from River Hebert and Halifax get together, all with one thing in common; their love for the River Hebert and Joggins area. At this years luncheon, Member Charles Baird was presented with gifts and thank you from the QE2 in Halifax; where he served 11 years as a volunteer, administrator and organizer.

The River Hebert and Area Men's Group next meeting will be held in Halifax in December and they are always looking forward to new members.

A Very Special Thank You

Heritage Models Manager, Sarah Welton and the Board of Director would like to extend a special thank you to the members of the Cumberland Car Club for hosting Sundays antique cars show and fundraiser for Heritage Models, in memory of Bud Johnston. 52 cars took place in the event and each as beautiful as the next. The event was a huge success and most importantly Buds Dream of having this event at Heritage Models has finally come true. From all of us, Thank You.
