Communities across the province, including as near as Eston, are reporting an high pressure rental scam.
RCMP report that individuals who have placed ads searing for a place to rent, have been contacted by con artists with an offer to rent a place that seems way too good to turn down. The con artist will tell you that they live some place far away and that they have a residence for rent in your area. They will then send you pictures of an amazing house and state that the rent is very low, and then they will send you a rental application.
Once you send the application back to them they will ask you to send a down payment via money transfer and tell you that the keys are already in the mail for you. If you ask any questions or request to see the house in person first they will get very upset and try to convince you that they are for real and that if you don't act now they will give the property to one of the other interested people.
This "too good to be true" scam is also occurring in the Regina/White City area.
RCMP are asking for individuals with information on this scam to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submit a tip online at www.saskcrimestoppers.com, through SaskTel Mobility at *8477, or text TIP206 plus your tip to CRIMES (274637).
