After almost a full year of not having gas pumps operating in their community, Val Marie will soon have access to a gasoline supply after B & A Petroleum announced they will be installing a card lock station in the coming months.
After Val Marie's lone gas station closed last fall, both residents and visitors were faced with a 35 to 55 kilometre drive in order to refuel.
Both the R.M. of Val Marie and the Village of Val Marie are pleased B & A Petroleum Ltd. will be serving the community. They had identified that the lack of a gas supply was problematic for the thousands of visitors who come annually to visit Grasslands National Park.
B & A Petroleum will be opening a new card lock fuel station on a vacant lot just north of the Village of Val Marie which will supply gas, clear and dyed diesel via a 24-hour accessible card lock. The card lock will accept VISA, MasterCard, ARI Fleet Management Cards, and will have an in-house card option as well.
The exact date for opening has not yet been set, however Darryl Meyer, owner of B & A Petroleum Ltd. indicates that “preparations are currently underway, and we aim to be operating by early spring at the very latest”.
The attraction of a fuel station partner was initiated by the R.M. of Val Marie, the Village of Val Marie, and the Val Marie Economic Development Committee. This project involves contributions of the lot by the Village of Val Marie, and landscaping and site preparation by the R.M. of Val Marie. All parties are thrilled to see that their work has come to fruition.
