Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire Southwest, with the potential of large hail and strong winds developing.
The severe thunderstorm watch is currently issued for the Swift Current - Herbert - Cabri - Kyle - Lucky Lake; Leader - Gull Lake; Shaunavon - Maple Creek - Val Marie - Cypress Hills; plus the Assiniboia - Gravelbourg - Coronach forecast areas.
Environment Canada issued the watch as an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.
"Severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and strong wind gusts are expected to develop in South Western Saskatchewan this afternoon. Storms will likely initiate in the far south western corner of the province and move into Swift Current and Assiniboia regions this evening. Currently hail and strong winds are the main threat but a tornado cannot be ruled out at this time. Be alert for the potential of severe thunderstorm warnings being issued later today."
