NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. - The Crown has dropped charges of assault and uttering death threats against a Saskatchewan provincial court judge.
Judge Donald Bird of Meadow Lake was charged last year over an alleged incident in 2008.
Crown prosecutor Anders Quist says the charges were dropped because witnesses stopped co-operating.
Bird, a former RCMP officer, was suspended with pay when he was charged.
Defence lawyer Sy Halyk says the allegations will hurt Bird's reputation.
Bird was appointed to the bench in 2006 and assigned special responsibility for an aboriginal court circuit in the area northwest of Saskatoon.
