TRURO - A 42-year-old Colchester County man faces drug charges after Friday afternoon's arrest in Truro.
Police would not release a name but said he was released on a promise to appear and an undertaking to appear in Truro provincial court on March 17.
Truro police and Colchester County RCMP arrested two men outside the Needs convenience store and A&W restaurant on Willow Street at 1:30 p.m.
On Monday, police identified the second man, a 47-year-old from Quebec, as Robert William Simpson, who was wanted on a Canada-wide parole warrant. The Mounties issued the warrant on Aug. 25, 2009 after he was absent without consent from an Ontario halfway house. At the time the RCMP said Simpson was considered to be violent and an escape risk.
"Robert William Simpson is serving a federal sentence for accessory after the fact as well as breach of recognizance," the RCMP's website says.
"Simpson's aggressive and impulsive behaviour has led to acts of violence. Simpson is known to have connections in Montreal, Que. and Ottawa, Ont."
The RCMP said the two men were together at the time of their arrests and further charges are anticipated.
