AMHERST - More than $3,000 was raised this past weekend for the Nova Scotia Fire Fighters Burn Unit Association.
The Amherst Fire Fighters hosted its annual Burn Treatment Society Funspiel at the Amherst Curling Club with 30 teams taking to four rinks from Friday to Sunday, raising around $3,200.
"We'd like to thank all the participants who curled and all of the tremendous support from the business community who donated many prizes and costs of running the Funspiel," said Ken MacKenzie on behalf of the fire department and organizing committee.
MacKenzie said everyone involved was the winner of the weekend, the ninth of its kind hosted by the local fire department.
Special thanks went out to A&W's Joe Dupuis and Ned Douglas of Sears for donating a 32-inch Samsung LCD TV, which was won by Janice Amos.
Once again, Dupuis donated the ice rental and entertainment for the weekend.
"It is this kind of support that gives Amherst and the county such a great reputation around the province as a giving community," MacKenzie added.
