HALIFAX - Residents of quiet Halifax-area street awoke Saturday to find themselves in the midst of a full-blown homicide investigation.
Half a dozen RCMP vehicles cluttered the suburban street in Middle Sackville.
Police tape and a lone bouquet of flowers identified the home where a woman was found dead Friday.
A 17-year-old male was expected in court Monday to face a second-degree murder charge.
The teenager was arrested walking naked along a nearby street shortly after the victim's body was found at about noon in her home.
"This is the sort of thing, you don't expect to happen so close to home," neighbour Brenda Donaldson said in an interview. "People are very shocked and upset."
RCMP have not confirmed the identity of the victim.
The victim, said to be in her mid-40s, moved to the neighbourhood about seven years ago, neighbours said.
"She was an outgoing and friendly person and we'd have long chats at the end of our driveways," said Donaldson. "We'd see her out jogging most evenings with a friend."
RCMP spokeswoman Const. Tamu Bracken said the teenager was remanded to the IWK Health Centre for psychiatric assessment.
The identity of the 17-year-old is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
