HALIFAX Nova Scotia's bill for battling the H1N1 virus has reached over $12.3 million.
Most of the money - $5.2 million - has been spent on 90 ventilators for patients in intensive care, according to a list of costs released Tuesday by the Health Promotion and Protection Department.
The next big-ticket item was H1N1 vaccine at $2.8 million.
That figure represents the province's 40 per cent share of the total cost - the rest is paid by the federal government.
Some of the other costs include $1.4 million for immunization clinic supplies and $1 million on preventative masks
The figures represent the costs as of Jan. 13.
Health Minister Maureen MacDonald has said the province expects to spend about $20 million, depending on the future activity of the virus.
There have been few confirmed H1N1 cases in the province since mid-December.
