AMHERST-Fire departments in Nova Scotia are looking for funding to help with services in need, and the local firefighters association is supporting other departments.
Fire Service Association of Nova Scotia has supported fire departments across the province allowing for some departments to have major renovations done to their halls. The Cumberland County Firefighters Association doesn't personally give money to the fire departments; they do look for avenues to get funding.
"We support their endeavors," Cumberland County Firefighters Association Director Darrell Fagan said.
The Fire Services Association has also supported the fire departments in other ways.
"We have put computers and internet in the fire departments," Fire Services Co-ordinator John Fredricks said. The Fire Services Association plans to continue upgrades on communications and renovations needed for the county. "We're looking to develop a plan and stick to that plan."
The Cumberland County Firefighters Association is looking to open a training facility in Oxford. Making it so volunteers don't have to travel to Waverly, N.S. for proper training
"It would make it a whole lot easier," Fagan said.
The Cumberland County Firefighters Association would like support for the fire departments from the province.
"I would love to see more money to come in to the fire services all across the province," Fagan said. "They're all looking for money and they all need it."
