ST. JOHNS, N.L. A Roman Catholic priest who sexually assaulted a young woman in Holyrood, N.L., last summer has been given a suspended sentence.

Rev. Patrick Robert Offin apologized for his actions in court Wednesday after pleading guilty to one count of sexual assault.

The charge stemmed from an Aug. 21 incident at the priests house.

Offin, whos from Ghana in West Africa, was serving a two-month stint at Holy Cross parish in Holyrood at the time.

The girl was a parishioner and had been at his residence to help Offin, 55, with his computer when he kissed and hugged the girl.

The suspended sentenced means Offin will not serve any jail time, but will have a criminal record.

if a hug and kiss is sexual assault then christmas in Amherst with the family is about to get really complicated.

Imagine all the sexual assaults that will occur at the bars in Amherst.

A slap on the butt at the Tree? Five dollars and a slap on the butt at the Tree with a couch (Duncans)? Both sexual assaults but at least the accused at the bar with a couch will more likely own a home and will let you stay a night while his wife is away.

back to the article? a hug and kiss? the story doesn't go any deeper but assuming it doesn't and assuming no one will have any follow up questions or facts to throw at me: ... a guy who made a move on a young woman? Sexual assault?
