WESTVILLE, N.S. Officials have identified a Nova Scotia man who died after an apartment fire in Westville last Friday.

The death of William Oliver Foster, 75, came one week after he was evicted from his own apartment in nearby Stellarton.

That building had been condemned as a fire hazard and deemed unsafe to live in, and the fire marshal had given residents a week to leave.

The Stellarton building needed significant structural upgrades, as well as the installation of fire alarms.

Foster was asleep in the back bedroom of the Westville apartment when the fire broke out, but he could not be revived after he was pulled out.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
